Margravial Opera House
The Margravial Opera House, one of Europe's most beautiful baroque theatres and a unique example of baroque theatre architecture was awarded the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2012.
The favourite object of margravine Wilhelmine still testifies her work today. It was finished after only four years of building in 1748 - the outside by Joseph Saint-Pierre, the inside by Giuseppe and Carlo Galli da Bibiena - and, on behalf of its size and glory, was only comparable with houses in Vienna, Paris or Venice. With its 27 meter depth, the stage of this opera house still was the largest in Germany in 1871 - a superlative which also directed Richard Wagner's attention to Bayreuth.
