A mysterious inhabitant of the New Castle has lost many letters on his way through the rooms. Solve some puzzles on your expedition through the New Castle, collect the letters and find out who the inhabitant was.

Guided by Wilhelmine's favourite dog Folichon, parents and children solve tasks, listen to exciting stories and learn more about the world of Wilhelmine, Margravine of Bayreuth. And at the end there is even a reward for all the little explorers!

The museum bag is available free of charge on request from the museum ticket office in the New Palace. Suitable for families with children aged 6 to 12.

Wilhelmine's favourite dog Folichon leads the way through the courtyard garden and presents the explorers with one or two not-so-easy tasks.

Craft instructions "Baroque ball mask"

More than 275 years ago, Margravine Wilhelmine wrote in her diary: "That same evening, I had the pleasure of going to a masked ball where, as no one knew me, I had the fun of teasing quite a few masks." Masked balls were very popular in the 18th century, especially during carnival, of course. People chose a face mask or disguise that was designed to make them as unrecognisable as possible. Here you will find instructions and the corresponding template to make a baroque mask for your own masked ball.

Prehistoric World Museum Upper Franconia

The museum shows the history of the earth in Upper Franconia, in particular the history of life (palaeontology), the bedrock (geology) and the diversity of minerals (mineralogy). In the Urwelt-Museum, children (and adults too, of course) can playfully explore the history of the earth in Upper Franconia at various facilities. Several themed rallies provide plenty of fun for explorers.

On the night watchman’s tour in Bayreuth, children and families get to experience the city in a completely different way: accompanied by the night watchman, they wander through the old town in the evening, past mysterious alleyways and historic sites. The children’s night watchman tour is particularly popular with children aged around 8 to 12. Here, young explorers learn in a playful way how people used to live in the city at night and what duties a night watchman had. Digitale Zeitreise im Neuen Schloss zu Bayreuth

The Digital Time Travel experience at the New Bayreuth Palace turns history into an interactive adventure. With the help of a smartphone treasure hunt, children and families can explore the palace at their own pace, solve exciting puzzles and discover lots of fascinating stories about Margravine Wilhelmine and life at court. The treasure hunt was developed by school pupils and combines playful exploration with modern technology.

All you need to take part is a smartphone with the free Actionbound app. The rally can be downloaded directly on site via a QR code. This turns a visit to the palace into an exciting journey through time for explorers of all ages.

Bayreuth: Siegesturm

The Siegesturm tower on the Hoher Wartberg is a fascinating destination for families and young explorers. After climbing to the top of the observation tower, visitors are rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of Bayreuth and the surrounding countryside. On clear days, the view even stretches as far as the Fichtelgebirge mountains. 

The tower is a little adventure, especially for children: the path up leads through the countryside and, once at the top, there is plenty to discover and marvel at. All around the Wartberg, meadows and paths invite you to play, run about and have a picnic.

Bayreuther Katakomben

The Bayreuth Catacombs take explorers of all ages deep beneath the city. In the historic rock cellars of the former brewery, visitors will find a mysterious labyrinth of passageways and vaults where beer was once stored.

Bayreuth: Röhrensee

Röhrenseepark in Bayreuth is a popular destination for families and offers plenty to discover. Children and adults alike can go for a stroll around the idyllic lake, watch the animals and enjoy the natural surroundings.

A particular highlight is the free petting zoo, home to goats, deer, waterfowl and many other animals. There are also several playgrounds, large meadows for running about and pleasant paths for a relaxing family outing.

If you like, you can walk around Lake Röhrensee, watch the ducks and swans, or simply enjoy the beautiful park grounds.

Discover historic Bayreuth with your family!

On this child-friendly city tour, children of pre-school and primary school age have the opportunity to discover Bayreuth in a completely different way. Because with anecdotes and stories from times long past, amusement and entertainment are guaranteed: What happened, for example, when a ghost called the "White Lady" almost frightened Napoelon to death in the New Palace? Or what did the poet Jean Paul do with the curls he used to cut off his poodle?

Children must be accompanied by a supervisor.

The meeting point for this tour is in front of the Tourist Information Centre at Opernstraße 22.
