The Castle Road is about 770 kilometres long. It runs mainly on country roads with little traffic.

That depends on how long you want to be on the road. Anything from two days to two weeks is possible. We recommend travelling the Castle Road in stages. We have listed tour suggestions in the ‘Practical tips’ section. There you can select a desired destination and the number of overnight stays and then receive several suggestions. The Castle Road is also perfect for a weekend trip.

We do not offer bookable trips. However, we will be happy to give you detailed tips on how to organise your stay. You will also find numerous hotel recommendations for your overnight stay on the Burgenstraße in the ‘Guest’ section. Our local colleagues at the tourist information centres will also be happy to help you. Yes there is the cycle path "Castle Road". This is about 800 kilometres long. All information and the GPX Track can be found here on our website in the section "on the road by bike".

The ‘Burgenstraße’ cycle path is signposted in both directions. You can recognise it by the small square red signs with a pinnacle on them. However, we recommend that you have a map of the route with you and download the GPX track in advance.

The Castle Road is worth a visit all year round. In summer, you can combine your trip with a visit to the numerous open-air theatres, for example, and in winter with a visit to one of the Christmas markets. There are also numerous interesting events in the member towns throughout the year - from medieval markets to classical music festivals. You can search for current and upcoming events on our website in the ‘Holiday tips / Events’ section, either by town, month or type of event.

The castles and palaces are usually open all year round. However, opening times may vary depending on the season. We recommend that you check these in advance. The opening hours of the castles and palaces can be found on our website under ‘Practical tips’.

The Castle Road has 47 members. Our members are towns and municipalities as well as individual castles and palaces. There are also 14 Premium Partner Hotels of the Castle Road.

he member towns have a sign at the entrance of the town with the inscription "Mitglied Burgenstraße" ("Member Castle Road"). Often the local tourist information offices have another sign or sticker. The Premium Partner Hotels have a glass sign at the entrance with the words "Premium Partner Hotel Burgenstraße".

The Castle Road is signposted throughout and thus meets the quality criteria of German holiday routes. Brown tourist signs and arrows mark the route.

There are several ways to travel along the Castle Road. Whether you are travelling by car, motorbike, motorhome or bicycle - our maps and tracks for download will show you the right route. There is a special brochure for motorhome drivers with detailed information on all the campsites along the route, which you can order free of charge. We have also produced a free brochure for classic car drivers, which presents the most beautiful routes away from the main route.
