What’s new on Castle Road?

Anniversaries and themed years, exciting exhibitions and seasonal highlights, new members and new brochures – on this page you can read what's happening on the Castle Road.

Discover Spalt and Eichstätt!

The Castle Road has grown: new additions from 2026 are the beer and hop town of Spalt in the Franconian Lake District with Wernfels Castle, and the baroque, bishopric and university town of Eichstätt in the Altmühl Valley with Willibaldsburg Castle. In addition to these historic buildings, both places hold numerous treasures that are well worth discovering: Immerse yourself in the history and secrets of hop growing and beer brewing in the pleasure town of Spalt, presented interactively in the award-winning HopfenBierGut museum. Stroll through the medieval streets past the typical high-gabled ‘hop houses’ and relax with a delicious Spalt beer on the shores of Lake Brombach. In Eichstätt, let yourself be infected by the lively joie de vivre of the Baroque era. Explore the restored Renaissance garden ‘Hortus Eystettensis’. Marvel at the world-famous Archaeopteryx in the Jura Museum and conquer the unique river landscape of the Altmühl Valley by water or on land. We hope you enjoy yourself!
