Stadt Hilpoltstein – Die Burgstadt am Rothsee

Hilpoltstein is rich in history and leisure activities: Fortified city wall towers, elaborate half-timbered houses, a proud residential palace and the castle ruins that tower above it all: in Hilpoltstein you will encounter traces of a city history that goes back more than 1000 years. The founders of the town are considered to be the Lords of Stein, who in the Middle Ages held a powerful position as imperial fronts. The 16th century is one of the heydays of the town's history, when Hilpoltstein became part of the Principality of Palatinate Neuburg. Count Palatine Ottheinrich II finally gave the castle to his wife Dorothea Maria as a widow's seat. In 1606, the Countess of the Palatinate moved into the castle. Hilpoltstein's historical treasures reveal some secrets during entertaining guided tours. The 17th century residence, simple on the outside, impresses on the inside with masterly stucco ceilings.

Idyllically situated in the Franconian Lake District, Hilpoltstein invites you to spend your leisure time actively. The Roth Lake offers, among other things, many opportunities for swimming and water sports. Varied cycle and hiking paths combine nature enjoyment and cultural discoveries along the way. There are tours for every taste and in between, warm hosts provide refreshments. Hilpoltstein is also a perfect starting point for fantastic cycling tours, leisurely along the Main-Danube Canal, around the Rothsee or sporty up to the Jura plateau. An e-bike can be recharged in Hilpoltstein directly at the market place in the middle of the beautiful old town and meanwhile you can bridge the time with a lunch or a coffee break in the historical old town.
