At “Market & Museum”, the focus is on sustainability and regionality - both among the vendors and in the museum. Sustainable products are offered here and a timeless cultural program there. The perfect symbiosis!
The development of the town of Lauf has always been closely linked to the River Pegnitz due to its hydropower. Today, four of the more than 50 mill wheels that once existed in Lauf can still be found on the grounds of the Industrial Museum. On German Mill Day, the venerable water wheel of the Roggenmühle mill will be set in motion, bringing the mechanics of the three-storey building to life. This year, there will also be a particularly exciting supporting programme and all kinds of culinary delights to discover!
Munich has the 'Wies'n', Erlangen has the 'Berg' and Lauf has the Altstadtfest. Every year on the last weekend in June, Lauf's market square, the Spitalhof and the surrounding streets and alleyways are transformed into one big party mile. Bands provide entertainment from the afternoon onwards on several stages spread throughout the old town. The supporting program includes a hobby and trempel market and a canoe race.

The traditional Kunigundenest is always celebrated in Lauf on the weekend of the first Sunday in July. The name goes back to the consecration of the chapel of St. Kunigund on the Kunigundenberg. The church consecration itself is said to have a tradition dating back more than 500 years. Prologues are performed, e.g. in the costume of the empress.
At the same time, a parish fair with a beer tent and fairground rides takes place on the Heldenwiese over the long weekend.
Lauf is once again all about open-air culture. Concerts, readings, cabaret and poetry slams, a photo exhibition with a vernissage, a morning pint and the arteschock summer cinema promise cultural treats for every taste.
Enjoy a cosy get-together during the district's Hop Weeks with music and a ‘Sommer Seidla’ or ‘Bimberla’. You can watch how beer is brewed and enjoy the atmosphere of the Lauf Industrial Museum. In good weather, the event takes place in the garden; in bad weather, it moves indoors. The museum grounds are open to interested beer garden visitors. The museum staff will be happy to show you the highlights of the exhibition and answer any questions you may have. In addition, the Lauf city guides offer the opportunity to take part in a beer tour along historical paths through the old town.
At the Hämmernkirchweih, the music department of TSV Lauf revives a piece of the town's history. The “sooty ones”, once blacksmiths and town watchmen, traditionally renew their oath of allegiance on the fourth Sunday in September. A colorful supporting program with music, a trempel market, demonstrations and an open-air church service provide entertainment. The final event is the hammer run with school and company teams.

It's steaming again at the Lauf Industrial Museum in November! On the two weekends in November, around 60 exhibitors from Germany and Austria will be presenting their models on the museum grounds. From steam-powered locomotives and model ships to a true-to-data model carpentry workshop - the world of technical model making will be on display in all its diversity.
