"Lachners' Tower"
The 33 metre high Lachnersturm is the highest viewing tower in Hohenlohe. After climbing 100 steps, some of which are medieval, visitors have a marvellous view across the Hohenlohe plain to the Franconian Heights and the Odenwald. The tower, named after a family of watchmen from around 1750, dates back to the 12th century and was once inhabited by the high watchman who guarded the entrance to the town.
Open: March to October 8 a.m. until dusk.

In the final days of the Second World War, from 13 to 16 April 1945, 700 years of history were destroyed, burnt away and reduced to rubble. Reconstruction in a looser style, interspersed with small green spaces with cosy seating areas, brought back the homely charm of a medieval town - now equipped with all the facilities of the modern age. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Waldenburg was able to rejuvenate itself from the ruins. The phoenix fountain by the famous sculptor Hermann Koziol on the market square symbolises this sinking and resurrection.
