Heilbronn Wine Summer: Wine pavilion at the Neckar stage. The square at the Old Neckar near the Neckar stage is one of the most beautiful in the heart of Heilbronn. Two hundred years ago, the young Friederike Hauffe sought help from Justinus Kerner, a doctor and poet from Weinsberg. Despite intensive care, she died in 1829 at the age of just 28. Shortly afterwards, Kerner published the study ‘Die Seherin von Prevorst’ (The Seeress of Prevorst), in which he reported on the special abilities and visions of his patient, who allegedly communicated with spirits and possessed clairvoyant powers. The work became world-famous and the subject of heated debate. Even during her lifetime, the alleged seer attracted many curious visitors, including prominent figures such as the writer Ludwig Tieck. Yet it was only after her death and the publication of Kerner’s book that the myth surrounding her grew. Decades later, figures such as Richard Wagner and Empress Elisabeth of Austria visited the Kerner House in Weinsberg. The Munich painter Gabriel Max ultimately played a decisive role in mythologising Hauffe by depicting her in several portraits as a kind of saint. Through texts and images, the exhibition presents, for the first time, the story of Friederike Hauffe and her transformation into an icon of spiritualism.
‘Life would probably be easier and mean much more to people if, along with reading and writing, they also learned to dance.’
This quote, attributed to the famous dancer Anna Pavlova, describes the importance that dance should have as an aesthetic practice in the school curriculum.
Canan Erek, curator of the TANZ! Heilbronn festival, also aims to explore the multifaceted possibilities of contemporary dance and make it accessible to as wide an audience as possible. The participatory formats for children and young people in schools or theatres have sparked a wave of enthusiasm at previous ‘TANZ! Heilbronn’ festivals, which we want to build on together with you.
