Stein b. Nürnberg: Erlebnisweg "Wallensteins Lager"

One of the most important historical sites of the Thirty Years' War is located in what is now the area of the towns of Zirndorf, Oberasbach and Stein. On the orders of Albrecht von Wallenstein, one of the world's largest fortified army camps was built there in 1632. At the time, 50,000 soldiers and 15,000 horses were accommodated in "Wallenstein's Camp". There was also a cavalcade of around 30,000 other people: Families, merchants, jugglers and also prostitutes, who were also housed in the camp. The hygienic conditions were catastrophic and the camp was rife with disease and hunger.

The Wallenstein's Camp adventure trail traces the historical camp of 1632. 28 steles provide information about the time of the siege, impart knowledge in a playful way and make the dimensions of the siege tangible. Whether by walking along the former entrenchments, "eavesdropping" on protagonists of the time or discovering objects. Interested hikers collect new digital content for the accompanying app at each station. In the same way, the themed trail relates the natural environment that can be experienced to the historical events, as it makes clear the impact on the population of our communities at the time.
