The Baunach floodplain forms part of the Haßberge Landscape Conservation Area and is an important breeding and resting ground for various bird species. Standing at the confluence of the Weisach and Baunach rivers, this observation tower offers views not only of this paradise for meadow-nesting birds, but also of an inhabited beaver lodge. If you keep very quiet at the right time of day (shortly after sunset), you can observe these animals very well. The platform also features information boards providing details about the Baunach, the beavers, and the local bird and fish species. The observation tower can be reached from Pfarrweisach via hiking trails.

The circular walk begins below the ruins of Lichtenstein Castle. Much of what you’ll find along this path belongs to the realm of legends and myths, but some of it is actually true: weathered rocks, a horse trough, the Whale Rock or Tear Rock, caves and passages – everything seems a little mystical. It’s best to find out for yourself. The path is approximately 800 metres long, but can be extended by 1–2 km with a hike to the Teufelsstein. A “legendary” hike is guaranteed for you and your children here.
Length: 800 m, can be extended by 1–2 kilometres if desired
