From the Nature Park Haßberge through the Franconian Forest to the Wagner City.
The fifth discovery tour on the Castle Road begins begins in Ebern in the Haßberge Nature Park. Here you will find one of the most unusual castles in Germany, the ruins of the Felsenburg Rotenhan. From there the tour leads to Seßlach in the Rodachtal valley. The little town, also called "Upper Franconian Rothenburg", with its traditional inns around the market square is an Eldorado for friends of Franconian specialities. From here the Castle Road leads to Maroldsweisach with the extraordinary ruins of Altenstein Castle and the Castle Information Centre as well as to Pfarrweisach and Lichtenstein Castle. The next stop on the way to Coburg is the Heldburg Fortress. It houses the German Castle Museum, which opened in 2016 and is unique in Europe in this form. In 16 exhibition rooms, it is dedicated to the history, development and significance of castles in Central Europe. The series of impressive fortresses along the Castle Road continues with the Veste Coburg, the Rosenberg fortress in Kronach and the Plassenburg in Kulmbach before Bayreuth with its baroque treasures from the time of Margravine Wilhelmine is reached. Her work still shapes the city today and is reflected in the appointment of the Margrave's Opera House to the title of Margravine its coronation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In the Castle Information Centre on the ruins of Altenstein Castle, life and everyday life at a medieval castle come to life again. Models, multimedia presentations and 15 adventure stations in the castle ruins take you back in time and make the information centre an interesting destination for families in particular.
