The museum is located in a complex of historic half-timbered buildings, the former ‘Judenshof’ in the Pottenstein district of Tüchersfeld. Its picturesque location next to a rock formation typical of Franconian Switzerland makes it a much-photographed landmark of the region.
The permanent exhibitions of the Franconian Switzerland Museum comprise over 40 exhibition rooms displaying exhibits from the region's geological history, archaeology, folklore, art and Jewish life. Other focal points include crafts, religion, medicine, animals and warriors. A special feature is the original 18th-century synagogue.
Special exhibitions, action days and other cultural events complement the annual programme.

The privately run Pottenstein Executioner's Museum presents historical originals and detailed replicas of torture and punishment instruments, taking visitors on a journey through time to a dark chapter in legal history. It is neither a scientific archive nor a chamber of horrors. Rather, it invites visitors to learn not only about the terrible instruments and their use, but also about the stories and fates associated with them. It sees itself as a place for reflection on the sense and nonsense of torture and the death penalty, which are still widespread throughout the world – and is not for the faint-hearted.
Suitable for children aged 12 and above.
