Wildpark Hundshaupten

On a circular walk through the Hundshaupten Wildlife Park near Egloffstein, you will stroll past dwarf goats, alpacas, raccoons and many other wild animals. You hike along a stream through the rocky scenery past tall beeches, spruces and maples, climbing a few metres in altitude along the way. Wonderful views of the nearby mountain castle and the landscape of the Trubach Valley make you forget the effort of the climb.

The Hundshaupten Wildlife Park is a favourite destination for families in particular. Open all year round, you can observe almost 40 native animal species on a short hike through the spacious grounds. Parents can enjoy good Franconian cuisine in the catering area while the children play with the goats within sight or have fun in the playground.

"Experience nature and animals...", the focus is on the interaction between animals, nature and people. Visitors should be as close as possible to the animals and become enthusiastic about the local flora and fauna as well as the special landscape features of Franconian Switzerland.

Höhenschwimmbad Gößweinstein

The special appeal of the Gößweinstein high-altitude swimming pool is its location: the exposed hill at the entrance to the town offers an almost sensational view of the town with its pilgrimage basilica and castle and yet is only 250 meters from the town center. The high-altitude swimming pool is embedded in intact nature and invites you to linger and dream. The area with its various terraces and bizarre-looking rock formations offers unexpected natural enjoyment. As a near-natural bathing water, it works exclusively with biological water treatment.

Opening hours
June 1st to September 15th
Weather permitting, daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m
Free entry (no lifeguard, the water depth is only 1.35 meters)

Esperhöhle - Gößweinstein

The Esperhöhle cave, popularly known as Klingloch, is located around 900 metres north-west of Leutzdorf and is one of the largest and most impressive karst structures in Franconian Switzerland. It is the remains of what was once a large cave system. The entrance portal to the cave is spectacular. A passageway, where you should keep your head down, leads into an impressive small doline, surrounded by rock walls over 20 metres high. At the end of the small doline is a 2 metre deep descent that leads to the middle level of the cave. Caution is advised here - the descent should not be attempted without climbing skills. Up to this point, however, it is safe to enter, even for children. During the winter months, the Esper Cave serves as a roost for hundreds of bats. As these animals must not be startled during hibernation, the cave may not be entered in the period from 1 October to 15 April.
