Exhibition: "With the sword or with firm belief - Luther and the Witches"

For us, witches are simply just protagonists in fairy tales today. In the Early Modern Age, however, a incarnated fear of witches was rampant: torture and burnings unfortunately were daily fare all to often. The Medieval Criminal Museum administers to this multilayered issue and mainly puts Martin Luther in the focus.

The special exhibition to the Luther Decade also goes into the forensic and social excesses of the witch-hunt in Franconia and Rothenburg with the aid of numerous extraordinary exponates, modern museums-techniques and lively descriptions. Further information

Since it is an outdoor guided tour, we recommend suitable footwear and a flashlight.

Exhibition: "Porcelain - About Gunsmoke & Battlefield Idyll"

A masterpiece of the world-famous porcelain of Frankenthal shines in the exhibition "About Gunsmoke & Battlefield Idyll" in the Zeughaus Museum. Rarely a coffee- and tea set with 43 parts has been so fully preserved. C. H. Winterstein, one of the best Frankenthal porcelain painters, created the paintings around 1766. Horseman battles in front of historical sceneries, resting soldiers up to the dramatic combats give an idealized image of the combat in the 18th century. Further information

Public casemate tours 2018

The underground passages and the bulletproof vaults of the fortress form the key point of this guided tour. The casemates that originally served as places for fighting, living and storaging, have been rebuilt as production-sites already at the end of World War II. Functions of the corridor system were monitoring of enemy sapping in case of a siege as well as the diversion of surface water. Also the cistern in Bastion IV is passed.

Architecture has a tremendous influence on our lives and experiences – this holds true especially for people who spent the better part of their lives behind the walls of psychiatric institutions. The historical Prinzhorn collection, which contains works of psychiatric patients from around 1900, contains not only depictions of institutions and patient‘s cells and rooms but also a great variety of various architectural motifs, ranging from small abstract sketches to large and extravagant drawings.

Our Exhibition "Restlessness and Architecture" presents a selection of 150 works on paper and paintings, many of which have not yet been on show to the general public. Further information

The strung-out city park along the Kocher river turns into a magical ocean of lights: 25,000 light cups in fanciful ornaments and 2,000 coloured Chinese lanterns in the old trees take care of a breathtaking sea of lights - all this makes the Summer Night Festival so charming. Electoral Palatinate Bread Market

Baking bread is a skill - to bake a good bread is art. The bakers of the baker's guild prove that they are in control of this art today with their specialities. Pretzels, tartes flambée and delicious bread arise in the show-bakery and in the wood-fired oven. In the "baking-bus", children can bake and a historic bakery shows how this craft has been exercised some 100 years ago.

The master craftsmen of the butcher's guild of Mosbach contribute sausage specialities from the Electoral Palatinate. Delicious sandwich spreads, sweet or hearty, and everything that tastes even better when eaten together with bread, can be tasted and taken home.

Beside its offerings, the market presents music and entertainment for the whole family. Further information

Oven-Festival in the Hohenlohe Open-Air Museum Wackershofen

When smoke comes out of the chimneys over the museum and it smells like fresh bread in all corners, every visitor knows why this festival bears its name. In the historic baking ovens of the museum buildings, the most different variations of regional specialties are being baked by busy helpers. But there is more than just salty and sweet cake and fresh bread. There are also barbecued and cooked specialties.

The Oven Festival is also a special flea market, where there is a lot to buy and to experience. Besides the city orchestra Schwäbisch Hall, different bands and clubs take care of the musical entertainment. Further information

Exhibition in the Art Gallery Vogelmann: "Female Sculptors - from Kollwitz to Genzken"

Sculpture as supposed "most unfeminine of all arts" was especially challenging for female artists. Professional female pioneers like Käthe Kollwitz or Clara Rilke-Westhoff ignored the predominant constraints and gender-ideological taboos in the beginning of the 20th century. The paved the way for the female artists of the 1920's like Mag Moll, Emy Roeder or Milly Steger.

About 40 female artists represent not only the social history of female artists, but are also a reason to meaningfully reconsider the past reception. Further information (only in German)

Since 1510 the Dilsberg Nightwatchmen have now been active. Of course the staff has changed since then, but the background has remained the same. As it used to be the Nightwatchmen wander through the alleys of Dilsberg in the night of New Year's Eve.

Since 1923 the custom of the Dilsberg Nightwatchmen at the New Year's Eve parade lives on. Every year twelve men are gathering at the gate tower. They are dressed in long coats and special hats, the "Three Peaks". Alongside this they wear halberds - cutting and thrusting weapons - and lanterns. Twelve times the Nightwatchmen's horn blows, then the Nightwatchmen sing their traditional song "Dilsberg at Night". Further information

Many visitors from near and far are expected, who let themselves be enchanted by the magical lights from the many fires on the rocks around Pottenstein. Further information (only in German)

Day of the Beer

All breweries in Bamberg come together at the Maxplatz in Bamberg's centre - an event to celebrate and taste!

In the 19th century Bamberg had a capital position in Franconia with its 65 breweries. Even today, eleven medium-sized and family-run breweries manually brew beer. This ancient art of brewing has its highlight on the Beer Day (23rd of April). Thereby, the visitors can compare and enjoy the various beer types at the Maxplatz in Bamberg. "Ungespundetes" (unplugged), pils, smoked beer, cellar beer or wheat beer - there is everything, a beer connoisseur could wish for. Further information

Long ArtNIGHT

The Old Town becomes a single art gallery and enlivened by varied artistic activities: from most different art exhibitions, over lectures, musical performances, up to theatre shows, everything is provided. The Old Town itself, with its unique architecture, is illuminated in an imaginative, sometimes bizarre and mystical kind of way. Again, stilt walkers are out and about in the alleys and a fire-dance-show lightens the nighttime sky above Bad Wimpfen. A stroll with breaks in different places, which aren't accessible on normal days.

The citizens of Wimpfen greet their guests and "express" their invitation, by putting chairs to linger and chat in front of their houses. They invite the guest: "Let the people, let the town and the lights touch you!" This wonderful gesture is inspired by the voluntary project group "Town of 1000 chairs". Wimpfen shows itself open and says hello to its guests in a very peculiar way.

The entry into the museums is free of charge this evening. Further information

Delicious sandwich spreads, sweet or salty, and everything that tastes even better when eaten together with bread, can be tasted and taken home.

Beside its offerings, the market presents music and entertainment for the whole family. Further information
