Exhibition: "With the sword or with firm belief - Luther and the Witches"

For us witches are simply just protagonists in fairy tales today, in the Early Modern Age however, a incarnated fear of witches was rampant: torture and burnings unfortunately were daily fare all to often. The Medieval Criminal Museum administers to this multilayered issue and mainly puts Martin Luther in the focus.

The special Exhibition to the Luther Decade also goes into the forensic and social excesses of the witch-hunt in Franconia and Rothenburg with the aid of numerous extraordinary exponates, modern museums-techniques and lively descriptions. Further information

Exhibition: "Media in the Religion Fights"

The Reichsstadtmuseum dedicates itself to the religious war and cultural struggle, which is expressed in the new media in the time of the Reformation. It guides through the rich fund of chancellor Georg Vogler's reformatory leaflets, and explains that hate sermons, defamations, and the call for iconoclasm - therefore the temptation, respectively the proclamation to terror and destruction - are no invention of the modern media. The exhibition examines the conflicts of those times, and shows which role especially the printed word plays. Further information

Anniversary Exhibition: "Nothing Lasts Forever". - Wieland Wagner - Tradition and Revolution

The anniversary exhibition on the occasion of the 100th year of birth of Wieland Wagner traces the person and the stage artist Wieland Wagner and gives an impression of the - although until his all too early death at the age of only 49 years - only 15 years and so relatively short lasting, though until today lingering, legendary era of the Bayreuth Festivals and thereby of music theatre art and a radically altered image of Wagner worldwide. The scenographic form of the exhibition makes it possible to sensually experience the significant theatre- and cultural-historical aspects of Wieland Wagner's theatre.

The entry to the special exhibition is included in the regular museum entry. In July and August the museum is open daily from 10 am until 6 pm; from September to June from 10 am until 5 am from Tuesday to Sunday. Further information

Christmas Market "Reiterlesmarkt"

Long nights, days always getting shorter and colder: who wants to take the best out of a German winter fairytale, visits the "Reiterlesmarkt" in Rothenburg during the season of Advent. Year after year the medieval Rothenburg turns into a winter fairytale. Already since the 15th century the festive season of Advent is accompanied by a wonderful Christmas market. This market can look back at 500 years of lived tradition, and since then prudently only very little of its historic source has changed. Further information

When smoke comes out of the chimneys over the museum and it smells like fresh bread in all corners, every visitor knows, why this festival bears it's name. Because in many historic baking ovens of the museum buildings, the most different variations of regianal specialties are being baked by busy helpers. But there is more than just salty and sweet cake and fresh bread, but also barbecued and cooked specialties. The Oven Festival is also a special flea market, where there is a lot to buy or to experience. Besides the city orchestra Schwäbisch Hall, different bands and clubs take care of the musical entertainment. Further information
