A huge number of events invite you to the Castle Road throughout the year. They awaken long-gone times, continue ancient traditions and fill historical places with life. Our calendar of events lists them - from "Master's Draught" (historical theatre) up to castle concerts, from knight tournaments to christmas markets - and shows you when it is especially worthwhile to "target" the Castle Road.
The open-air theatre on the steps of St. Michael's is an inseparable part of Schwäbisch Hall's identity. Artistic standards and entertainment go hand in hand here. Three productions on the Grand Staircase form the core of the festival. Further productions are shown in the "New Globe", a modern interpretation of the legendary London Globe Theatre from the time of William Shakespeare.
Between May and August, the Rosenberg Festival offers top-class open-air theatre high above the roofs of the half-timbered town of Kronach on the mighty Rosenberg Fortress, one of the most important fortifications in Germany. The following plays will be performed against this impressive backdrop:

Heidelberg's castle ruins are not only considered the most visited in Germany. It is also home to the venues of the Heidelberg Theater and Orchestra: the Castle Courtyard, the Thick Tower and the English Building. In summer, they form the backdrop for productions of all genres and festive concerts as part of the Heidelberg Castle Festival.

The Pottenstein Faust Festival began in 2016 with a small group and quickly developed into a popular open-air theater. Since 2022, they have been delighting audiences in Pottenstein with a natural stage, beer garden and great enthusiasm for the play. A cultural highlight with goosebump moments and festival flair!
The International Schiller Days bring the work and ideas of Friedrich Schiller, the first in-house author of the National Theatre, to the stages, streets and squares of the city. With guest performances, talks, readings and city tours. And of course with parties and the legendary Schill-out concerts at the festival center on Franklin Field.
Whether funny comedies or exciting dramas - for more than 30 years, the Klosterhofspiele Langenzenn have stood for high-quality amateur theatre under professional direction. The ensemble regularly brings dignified classics, sophisticated comedies and endearing children's theatre plays to the open-air stages in the atmospheric Klosterhof courtyard.
In 2025, “What You Will” (comedy by Wiliam Shakespeare) and “Little King Kalle Wirsch” (for children aged 3 and over) are two sure-fire entertainment guarantees on the program.

Under the slogan "small but nice", the open-air theater located in the north courtyard of the Imperial City Museum has become an integral part of the city's cultural life and delights visitors with a varied and entertaining program during the theater season.

To commemorate 80 years since the end of the war, the successful musical “Mademoiselle Marie” will be performed by the Cadolzburg Castle Festival Musical Association in summer 2025. 15 performances will be staged open-air in the courtyard of Cadolzburg Castle. The ETA Hoffmann Theater's Calderón plays have a decades-long tradition in Bamberg. “The Great Gatsby” is performed in the Alte Hofhaltung on the Domberg. Published in 1925, it is considered a classic of US literature. For the 100th anniversary in 2025, the story of glamor, loneliness and the “Roaring Twenties” unfolds its very own magic in Janis Knorr's production.

The Hans Sachs theatre group in Langenzenn is known far beyond the region for its idealism, inventiveness and commitment. Every summer, it performs well-known plays translated into Franconian at the Kulturhof.
In 2025, “Charley's Aunt or the Power of Money” will be on the program in the new version by Harald Gebhartl after Brandon Thomas, directed by Gabriele Küffner.
The Baden State Theatre makes a guest appearance in Eberbach with William Shakespeare's “Twelfth Night”. A shipwreck leads Viola to Illyria, where she disguises herself as a man and enters Orsino's service as Cesario. Love confusion, mistaken identities and foolish pranks cause chaos. In the end, couples are found - only Malvolio remains embittered. A classic from the Baden State Theater. Weather permitting, the performance will take place on Leopoldsplatz.
Handel's dramma per musica tells the passionate story of Caesar and Cleopatra. After his victory over Pompeo, Cesare gets caught up in the intrigues of the Egyptian king Tolomeo. Instead of allowing himself to be manipulated, he falls in love with Cleopatra and makes her his queen. Tatjana Gürbaca stages the masterpiece at the Schlosstheater Schwetzingen.

Burgbühne Dilsberg opens the 2025 theater season with “The Rose of Dilsberg”, a new production by Tanja Emmerich. The play, written by Bruno Herman Hottenroth, combines love, intrigue and fate against the backdrop of Dilsberg Castle. The story of Rosamunde, Knight Wolf and Ulrich reaches its dramatic climax on the magical night of St. John. Recommended for ages 6 and up. Tickets available from 01.03.2025.
This year, the Stauferpfalz Festspiele Bad Wimpfen e.V. association invites you to Agatha Christie's “The Spider's Web”.
The association has set itself the goal of offering high-quality community theater and portraying the lives of the citizens of Wimpfen in different eras. Significant events in Wimpfen's history are to be brought back to life. However, the Stauferpfalz-Festspielverein is not only known for its open-air plays. Numerous committed actors also come together outside of the open-air season to enjoy rehearsing humorous sketches and one-act plays.
With classical productions, the Schlosshofspiele Roth offers the audience summer theater in a historical ambience again this year.
The annual performance of well-known plays on the Schlosshof stage has become one of the cultural highlights of the summer in Roth.
Every Tuesday at 8 p.m., the town of Wolframs-Eschenbach presents open-air summer theater in the churchyard. Experience “Frisch, Frech, Frivol”: a sensual evening with Casanova, who escapes from the clutches of the Inquisition and is whisked away to royal beds.
