It was a sensation, as twenty believed to be missing mummies were rediscovered in the depots of the Mannheim Reiss-Engelhorn-Museums in 2004. Since 1510 the Dilsberg Nightwatchmen have now been active. Of course the staff has changed since then, but the background has remained the same. As it used to be the Nightwatchmen wander through the alleys of Dilsberg in the night of New Year's Eve.
Since 1923 the custom of the Dilsberg Nightwatchmen at the New Year's Eve parade lives on. Every year twelve men are gathering at the gate tower. They are dressed in long coats and special hats, the "Three Peaks". Alongside this they wear halberds - cutting and thrusting weapons - and lanterns. Twelve times the Nightwatchmen's horn blows, then the Nightwatchmen sing their traditional song "Dilsberg at Night". Further information
